Job Summary 

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Finance Controller will manage and administer all division accounting and finance functions. This involves leading timelyaccurate and complete submission of all financial data including monthly financial results, annual budgets, monthly forecasting and monthly financial analysis; understanding and explaining variances to all levels of Management as well as advising on actions to achieve improved results and overall recommendations for improvement. The position will work closely with other accounting staff and Department Managers/Supervisors on accounting related issues. The position will also be a business partner to the plant operations team. 

 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities 

- Manage and administer all division accounting functions 

- Responsible for the monthly financial close process, including preparing and/or reviewing and inputting journal entries, account analysis and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations 

- Design, implement and maintain accounting processes, procedures, and related internal controls 

- Manage AR and AP functions and staff 

- Manage divisional cash flows, banking relationship, and bank reconciliation 

- Review and approve customer credit limits, and partner with the sales organization in cash collections 

- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs; analyze variances 

- Continuously evaluate the Company's inventory and cost accounting processes and make recommendations to improve the efficiency and accuracy of those processes in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) 

- Organize and schedule physical inventory counts at various times throughout the year (at least annually). Partner with purchasing, operations, and supply chain to manage accurate inventory balances. 

- Assist with the review of inventory transactions and resolve any discrepancies identified 

- Responsible for or assist in budgeting and forecast process 

- Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with budget and forecasts  

- Responsible for audit PBC's and assist in coordinating with outside auditors to ensure a successful year-end audit 

- Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking 

- Analyze customer profitability and operational performance 

- Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and- Excel dashboards in collaboration with IT 

- Provides training, guidance, and direction to ensure work is performed in an efficient, timely, and knowledgeable manner 

- Work with Plant Operations teams to monitor and control expenses, develop and implement enhanced metrics, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as required 

- Work closely with Supply Chain team on product costings, ensuring they have the necessary information to make the appropriate decision to ensure successful growth 

- Track, validate and report cost savings and value creation projects to drive continuous cost improvements 

- Experience with commercial contracts dealing with customer and supply transactions and agreements- including review of contracts and agreements for proper accounting treatment 

- Ensure compliance with all Company, Accounting and Government Standards, Policies and Regulations. 

- Work with Corporate Controller to evaluate and implement new accounting guidance 

- Build solid collaborative working relationships within Finance team and across the organization 

- Ability to identify business improvement opportunities and work as a partner with operations, manufacturing, and sales to capitalize on those opportunities 

- Some travel required may be required (< 5%) 

- Manage governmental compliance and regulatory changes including GST, HST and QST taxes 


Supervisory Responsibilities: (if any)  

Oversee and manage division accounting and finance team, including senior and staff accountants responsible for AR, AP, and inventory costing. 

 

Qualifications 

  • - Minimum 8 years of accounting experience preferably with manufacturing and possessing a working knowledge of GAAP, with 3 years in a supervisory position 

  • - Public Accounting experience is preferred 

  • - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA a plus 

  • - Adept with ERP systems 

  • - Proficiency in Microsoft Office package software is essential, including advanced knowledge of Excel formulas and functions 

  • - Strong analytical and data gathering skills 

  • - Strong business and accounting acumen 

  • - Must be assertive, self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills 

  • - Basic knowledge and ability to create reports via access queries, crystal reports, or other reporting tools 

  • - Critical to be someone who can roll up the sleeves and do whatever it takes - a doer, not a delegator, but also lead and grow team 

  • - Need to be someone who is willing to take initiative and independent in order to "figure it out" and follow through to make sure tasks are completed 

  • - Excellent time management skills.  

  • - Excellent attention to detail is essential.

Working Conditions 

- Office environment; use of computercopier, etc. 

- Must be able to sit for extended periods of times. (consistently) 

- Must be able to move and lift up to 40 lbs. (intermittently). 

- Minimal travel may be required for conferences, seminars, etc. 

- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment. if in the production areas.
