Here's what you'd do:  

  • The Packing/ Fabrication Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the packing, shipping, and fabrication teams. 
  • This role ensures that production processes run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company policies and quality standards. 
  • The Packing/Fabrication Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize workflows, and lead teams to meet operational objectives while maintaining a safe and productive workplace.
  • Ensure all employees work safely, follow safety policies and procedures, and maintain a productive workplace in accordance with legislative requirements (5S).
  • Support and encourage supervisors to conduct thorough incident investigations, identify root causes, implement corrective measures, and oversee facility audits, including managing the progressive discipline program.
  • Comply with all quality-related policies, procedures, and system requirements.
  • Manage and oversee the Packing, Shipping, and Fabrication departments to achieve operational objectives, ensuring department goals are met.
  • Exercise managerial control over production plans and oversee shop floor daily management systems to drive continuous improvement.
  • Utilize departmental data to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Plan for current and future capacity requirements to ensure optimal production flow.
  • Ensure department goals align with company objectives and provide feedback on performance.
  • Track and analyze department metrics, including yields, efficiency, downtime, and production targets.
  • Provide regular reports to the Plant Manager, follow up on missed targets, and use data-driven insights to optimize processes.
  • Identify root causes of inefficiencies, execute corrective actions, and implement process improvements to enhance quality and reduce costs.
  • Strategically streamline procedures for optimal production flow. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve process quality.
  • Establish roles and responsibilities for department supervisors, train and manage personnel, evaluate performance, and ensure adherence to quality standards, company policies, and PROUD values.
  • Foster a culture of team member development, training, and succession planning.
  • Motivate and evaluate staff on a regular basis to ensure high performance.
  • Manage material handling and warehouse packing personnel to ensure accuracy, neatness, and conformance to customer specifications.
  • Oversee daily shop floor management systems and stay engaged with production employees to address issues proactively.
  • Review backlog reports to determine staffing requirements and maintain on-time delivery.
  • Manage daily material handling and warehouse packing operations, ensuring accuracy, adherence to customer specifications, and productivity. Work with department managers to optimize material flow.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with carriers to ensure timely shipments. Manage fluctuations in customer demand in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Conduct and support annual performance reviews.
  • Lead efforts to improve efficiency, minimize process downtime, and enhance overall productivity.
  • Monitor and enforce plant-wide quality functions to ensure consistency with company quality policies.
  • Motivate and evaluate staff, conduct performance appraisals, oversee hiring, discipline, and terminations.
  • Plan for current and future capacity requirements to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support departmental and organizational success.

Job Requirements

 
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Business
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in production/fabrication/warehouse leadership within a manufacturing environment in a similar processing industry
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in maintenance, design, engineering, and quality within an industrial environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the development of production systems, such as process optimization, containment processes, process flow establishment, control plans development, and equipment installation projects
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with root cause problem solving and similar tools (i.e., fishbone, pareto, 5 whys, 8D).

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Experience working with KanBan systems
  • Experience in a fast-paced/24-hour environment 
  • Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT), Participation Agreement Program (PAP), Customs-Work Plan Certification Program (CWPCP), and United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) knowledge
  • Proven skills in complex problem solving, process control planning, manufacturing tooling, machine set-up, standard work instructions, and continuous improvement, including Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S.
  • Possess humility, passion for progress, and curiosity.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of measurements, tolerances, GD&T, and the ability to read blueprints.
  • Strong motivational, leadership, and practical team-building skills with the ability to coach and mentor.
  • Proven track record of successfully transforming operational work.
  • High energy level and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and external customers.
