Acara Solutions is seeking an entry-level candidate to work on-site with our customer in Kanona, NY. Interested?
Here's what you'd do:
We are seeking a motivated Entry‑Level Welder to join our rail vehicle overhaul and repair team. This role supports the restoration, refurbishment, and structural repair of railcars and related components. The ideal candidate has foundational welding skills, a strong commitment to safety, and an eagerness to learn specialized techniques used in the rail industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic welding tasks-including MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding-on steel and stainless‑steel railcar structures.
- Assist in the fabrication, fitting, and assembly of rail vehicle components.
- Grind, cut, and prep materials for welding and repair operations.
- Follow detailed repair instructions, mechanical drawings, and work orders.
- Support teardown, cleaning, and refurbishment of rail vehicle interiors, exteriors, and underframe assemblies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area; comply with facility, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanics, electricians, and senior welders to complete overhaul milestones.
- Document work performed according to company and regulatory requirements.
Here's what you'll get:
- Pay: $18.25/hour to start, with an opportunity to increase to $23.50/hour upon passing the company-provided training and certification
- Hours: M-F, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months welding experience
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Trade school diploma in welding
- Completion of a welding certificate program or prior hands‑on welding coursework/experience.
- Basic proficiency with common welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW)
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, vehicle maintenance, industrial repair, or metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of rail industry standards, AWS welding standards, or structural welding.
- Prior exposure to cutting torches, plasma cutters, or metal‑forming equipment.
- Ability to read simple blueprints, sketches, and measurement tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges).
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Willingness to learn and follow strict safety and operational procedures.
Additional Information:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Required bending, kneeling, walking, and standing for long periods of time
- Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
