Description

Acara Solutions has been providing aerospace/defense and other advanced manufacturing firms with our staffing services for over 60 years. Our Stafford Springs, CT international electronics client is looking for a Sr. Cost Accounting Manager to join their organization as a direct salaried employee onsite. They also have a Controller opening in their plant nearby. The base salary target range for the Sr. Cost Accounting Manager is $155K - $170K and the Controller salary is $170K - $185K.

There is one direct report in each of these locations. 

  • Serve as plant business partner for general manager with focus on driving growth and improving margins
  • Prepare monthly forecasts for the assigned plants.
  • Oversee preparation of plant level end market 'virtual' profit and loss reporting.
  • Prepare and explain variances between actual performance and forecast in a written narrative for management, assure that variances are analyzed and that appropriate the response is taken.
  • Oversee forecasting future costs to complete on funded projects as the basis of percentage of completion for revenue recognition.
  • Lead efforts to track project and program costs, including R&D, engineering labor, material, and any expense items charged to the project or program.  This includes analysis of variances of other anomalies which may rise.
  • Oversee Product Cost Analysis for annuity programs.
  • Recommend revisions to budgets and business plans on interim basis in response to changing business conditions.
  • Provide financial information and partner with local plant management to attain financial and operational objectives.
  • Oversee execution of myriad weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial and operating reports for the plants (factory load, cost savings, weekly ops metrics, PR overview).
  • Facilitate and strengthen communications and business relationship between finance and the other functional areas of the business.
  • Lead efforts to create and facilitate more effective financial/cost consciousness in everyday business activities.
  • Coordinate and liaise with Shared Services Center regarding period end close (JE and account reconciliations) and ongoing finance operations (Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections).
  • Direct preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and reports for the plants and ensure timely submission to corporate financial organizations.
  • Oversee execution of periodic reporting and analysis of 'plant prepared' financial records (Inventory Valuation, Construction in Progress, Revenue Recognition [cut-off] Analysis, Pre-paid Expenses, Accrued Liabilities, among others.
  • Oversee administrative, financial and operational systems and procedures for the plants.
  • Ensure that appropriate administrative and financial controls are well documented and maintained
  • Assure that accounting and financial control procedures meet company's standards.
  • Direct financial analysis to support business decisions in areas of capital investment, staffing levels, review of cost-drivers, process improvements, product costing and pricing.
  • Review and approve all purchase commitments for the assigned plants.  Oversee preparation and submittal of Capital Expenditure Requests.
  • Support audit of financial records by external and internal auditors
  • Oversee plant finance team
 
Job Requirements

 
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 
Min 7 years of experience within accounting with a significant # of those years within a manufacturing firm with considerable hands-on floor experience. This experience has to include strong cost accounting (standard costing, standard rate, capital variances), raw materials and finished goods, inventory and capitalization, etc.
Min 2 years of accounting experience within a larger organization (min $50M in revenue) and experience in a publicly traded firm is a plus 
Min 5 years of advanced Excel experience (PivotTables, data manipulation...)

ITAR facility with military clients - ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance is required
