Primary Purpose of Role
The role of the Accountant at the Lockport site is to ensure the integrity of the General Ledger and producing timely and accurate financial information to both internal and external parties. Internal parties will include Senior Management and Department Heads. External parties will include Lending Institutions, External Auditors and Tax Advisors. Financial information will include annual budgets and forecasts.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant
- Managing the activities of the AP/AR Clerk with respect to day-to-day activities, objective setting, performance reviews and coaching the AP/AR Clerk
- Ensuring all accounts within the General Ledger are fully reconciled each month and all differences are resolved in a timely fashion
- Post all journals generated by AP/AR Clerk and the Senior Financial Analyst
- Prepare each month end a closing schedule to ensure the monthly reporting deadlines are met. Will ensure all contributing parties are aware of their responsibilities for month end reporting and conduct regular update sessions during the month end close
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports and information to the Site Management relating to: month end financial statements, year-end forecasts updated as determined by the CFO, departmental expense reports including explanation of spend variances and analysis of product/customer profitability
- Responsible for ensuring Department Heads are aware of expenditure within their departments and will work closely with Department Heads to ensure expenditure remains in line with budget
- Responsible for ensuring the annual budget process for the organization is completed in a timely and accurate fashion. This will involve agreeing a budget timetable with key site stakeholders and ensuring individuals/departments are providing the required information on time and in full. Will also work closely with the CFO to review departmental expense budgets with Department Heads.
- Responsible for maintaining full records of capital in progress and working with the engineering department to ensure proper tracking of expenditure and prompt closure of projects.
- Coordinate the monthly agreement of inter-company balances across all entities.
- Primary contact for the external audit and tax preparation for the organization, working closely with the relevant external parties to deliver timely and accurate information to ensure both Statutory Audits and Tax filings are completed on time and within budget.
- Support the Procurement Department in the timely payment of suppliers through managing the activities of the AP/AR Clerk.
Target salary range $70-85k depending on experience
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting or Finance
- 3 years of accounting experience
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Good math skills coupled with developed Excel skills
