Technical Lead Systems / Electrical Engineer
$75.00-$85.00 per hour (DOE)
Client does want to bring contractor on directly after 90 days
Position Overview:
As a Technical Lead Systems / Electrical Engineer for the Transmit Group (TG), you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for the full product lifecycle of active sonar systems onboard U.S. Navy submarines. This includes design, requirements, development, manufacturing, integration, production, and maintenance of TG systems across both legacy and emerging submarine classes. TG systems generate high-energy pulses that travel through water to identify underwater targets.
As a Technical Lead Systems / Electrical Engineer for the Transmit Group (TG), you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for the full product lifecycle of active sonar systems onboard U.S. Navy submarines. This includes design, requirements, development, manufacturing, integration, production, and maintenance of TG systems across both legacy and emerging submarine classes. TG systems generate high-energy pulses that travel through water to identify underwater targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and lifecycle management of active sonar systems used in U.S. Navy submarines.
- Collaborate with internal teams, the U.S. Navy, and external partners to ensure systems meet all requirements and are delivered on schedule.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and provide resolutions during system integration, testing, production, and in the power lab environment.
- Develop and review technical documents, including interface control drawings, assembly drawings, and test procedures.
- Evaluate hardware components for performance impacts on existing designs.
- Research product specifications and resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design issues.
- Create and present technical reports and recommendations to both internal management and Navy customers.
Desired Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with CAD and CAE tools, including 5 years using a major CAD tool (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia) and 5 years using a CAE tool (e.g., ANSYS, CD-ADAPCO, ALGOR).
- Strong working knowledge of CAD tools for design, drawing creation, analysis, BOM generation, and part tracking.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and customers to develop and deliver high-power systems and sensors.
- Experience with troubleshooting hardware in system integration and testing environments.
This role requires excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work closely with both technical teams and customers to meet high expectations.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in CAD and associated CAE tools for design, drawing creation, analysis, BOM generation, and part tracking.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in power/analog hardware and systems and electronics troubleshooting skills.
- Minimum of 8 years experience with hardware and system integration testing (Assembly Level Test / Unit Test / Integration Test / System Performance Test).
- Minimum of 8 years experience in hardware development processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or project.
- Minimum of 8 years experience with circuit card design using advanced materials and packaging techniques.
- Minimum of 8 years experience with Linux.
- Minimum of 8 years of leadership experience.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Minimum of 5 years experience with at least one major CAD tool (SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia) and one major CAE tool (ANSYS, CD-ADAPCO, ALGOR).
- High-speed circuit card design incorporating embedded processors or FPGAs,
- Acoustics or Sonar applications.
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD).
- Collaborative, creative thinker with demonstrated success leading design teams for complex projects.
- Linear amplifier design, Electro-mechanical manufacturing.
- Power/analog hardware and systems.
- Computer-Aided Engineering.
- Working with Electrical components.
- Exceptional communication skills with the capacity to drive innovation and secure buy-in on concepts and ideas.
